Chicken Wings and Fashion Things Has Moved!

Dear Loyal and Amazing Readers,

Exciting things are going on here at Chicken Wings and Fashion Things, most notably I’ve relocated to NYC full time! Thats right Chicken Wings and Fashion Things will still bring you reviews of various wing spots, except now they’ll be NYC based.

Also being that New York CIty is the fashion capital of the United States, I’ll bring you more in-depth fashion news than ever before, including a Chicken Wings and Fashion Wings EXCLUSIVE. I will bring you the story behind the scenes while I work the Alexander Wang Resort 2013 market presentations, thats right, even before Tim Blanks and Style.com get their grubby hands on it (jk, I adore Tim Blanks and his reviews).

So in conclusion, things are about to jump into high gear! I hope you’re ready!

FashionConcious: The Vogue Health Initiative & The Industy at Large

The always warm, Anna Wintour and her cohorts at The Bible Vogue have recently taken on a new “Health Initiative”. The initiative is an attempt to promote healthy practices by the models and promote a heathy body image by the models featured in Vogue. The six points of the initiative, which has already been adopted by 19 of Vogue’s publications, are as follows:

1. We will not knowingly work with models under the age of 16 or who appear to have an eating disorder. We will work with models who, in our view, are healthy and help to promote a healthy body image

2. We will ask agents not to knowingly send us underage girls and casting directors to check IDs when casting shoots, shows and campaigns.

3. We will help to structure mentoring programmes where more mature models are able to give advice and guidance to younger girls, and we will help to raise industry-wide awareness through education, as has been integral to the Council of Fashion Designers of America Health Initiative.

4. We will encourage producers to create healthy backstage working conditions, including healthy food options and a respect for privacy. We will encourage casting agents not to keep models unreasonably late.

5. We encourage designers to consider the consequences of unrealistically small sample sizes of their clothing, which limits the range of women who can be photographed in their clothes, and encourages the use of extremely thin models.

6. We will be ambassadors for the message of healthy body image.

While an initiative is wonderful and all, the real question is ‘how will the initiative translate to the images on magazine covers and in its editorials?’ Vogue Paris’s solution seems to be the solution so many in the industry seem to have, “Why don’t we just get Giselle on it?” Emanuelle Alt and co. at Vogue Paris put Giselle on the cover in a bikini bottom. And some sand.

Image

While I am never opposed to seeing any and all parts of Giselle, (sometimes I even ask God to place pictures of Giselle in various states of undress under my pillow like some kind of softcore porn tooth fairy) I’m not exactly sure how this is different from any other numerous international Vogue covers that also feature Giselle looking hot in almost nothing (except for the sandy butt. The sandy butt is a nice touch).

Anna Wintour went in a different direction and chose people whose job relies on them being healthy, Olympic athletes. Soccer star, Hope Solo, tennis goddess, Serena Williams, and some hottie named Ryan Lochte (I guess he swims, but with that body, who really cares what he does if it isn’t me? Holla if you hear me!) grace this month’s cover.

Image

While the unfairly toned and cut creatures above are certainly healthy, none of them are models. Since the initiative is targeted toward the people normally on the cover (of every edition except American Vogue, Anna please put some models on the cover!) of Vogue I wanted to know how that translated to them. Behold Karlie Kloss with a bunch of athletes.

Although I am ever so thankful to Vogue for giving me a reason and the means to post pictures of my favorite supermodel (yeah I said it!) with some athletes very worthy of my attention, how is this any different from other Vogue editorials with Karlie Kloss looking amazing (as always) with some hot male co-stars? The issue also features editorials with my other favorite models, Joan Smalls and Arizona Muse. Now I love me some Joan Smalls, and a video diary of her I once watched did show her actually eating, but I don’t think of her when I think “healthy model”. I certainly think more Laura Stone or Crystal Renn, admittedly because these two models have more curves.

While all the models mentioned above may be very healthy and the top girls in the industry, they aren’t known for promoting health publicly, nor do they appeal the public’s perception of what “healthy” looks like. Though perception is not always reality, we live in a culture where people certainly believe it to be. Maybe it’s time for Vogue to try something new like new girls in the editorials that more resemble the people actually reading the magazine. The top girls may give great face, but are they really driving home the point that Vogue’s initiative is trying to make? The Council for Fashion Designers of America issued a similar optional but strongly encouraged initiative this past fashion season, but some major designers, most notably Marc Jacobs, blatantly ignored it. He tweeted

“Models are paid in trade. If they don’t want to work with us, they don’t have to”

Sadly Mr.Jacobs is not alone in his feeling. Major modeling agency, Ford agreed to represent models under the age of 16 for the Fall/Winter 2012 runway season saying,

“[We] take the age and maturity of our models very seriously. We work on a case-by-case basis alongside a prospective model’s parents to make a determination as to whether they are ready to walk the runway. In most cases, the answer is no. But a select few demonstrate the know-how and maturity that are necessary to work earlier than they otherwise would.”

While the industry has come a long way from the “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”-Kate Moss mentality, there are certainly no size 6 girls on the catwalk or in Vogue’s pages. Just as Anna Wintour was the first of the major fashion editors to start the “celebrities and not models on the cover” trend, it would be nice to see her put some models of varying sizes in the magazine wearing the top designers just as well as The Kloss or Ms.Smalls. Being that Vogue is a leader in the fashion industry, there is a good chance that trend could spread out of the magazines, on to the catwalk, and even to advertisements. Wouldn’t it be awesome to see somebody that looks like you in a high fashion advertisement!? Being that I am a skinny, black boy who just clears 5’7″, I can tell you it would be wonderful if the ads for the clothes I love reflected an image of me! It would be quite wonderful indeed.

Wing Review: Montmarte

Montmarte

127 High St.

Morgantown, WV

(304) 292-8200

Hours: Dinner Servered Mon-Sat. 5-10pm

Lounge Open Mon-Sat. 5-11pm

I really enjoy a great many activities in this life I’ve been blessed with; listening to The Kills, drinking champagne, wearing Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, reading Brett Easton Ellis novels, eating Twizzlers, sex, but none of these really compare to my love of…

Getting Classy at a Restaurant!

While money doesn’t necisserily buy you class, (as Countess Luanne reminded us) I absolutly love being wisked away to an atmosphere where one’s problems are Dom or Jouet, Cartier or Yurman, and life just seems…easier, a tad more stuffy than normal, but easier. The lighting is a bit dimmer, the music is a bit softer, and usually the food tastes a bit better. Such was pretty much the case on my recent excursion to the Montmarte reaturant.

FOODIE DISCLAIMER: Now dont get me wrong Montmarte is not Daniel, but as far Morgantown dining goes, its pretty close.

Montmarte is the restaurant on the top floor of Morgantown,WV’s historic Clarion Hotel Morgan. It’s executive chef has put together a menu thats maintains a foothold in contemporary American cuisine, yet attempts to add innovation (sometimes to the food’s detriment) that would still make a Morgantown,WV clientele comfortable. The entre menu is anchored by the restaurant’s trio of fillet mignon preparations (and the best three dishes on the menu). Amidst the brushetta and crabcake stuffed mushrooms on the appitizer menu, lie a plate of chicken wings.

My waitress, the lovely Caroline Miskovsky, seated us in the lounge area of the resturant at one of the two tables by window with a view that almost makes Morgantown seem cosmopolitan (yes, the view is that good!). On this particular evening we were accompanied in the secton by members of The Real Elderly Housewives of Morgantown, who took it up on themselves to smoke during our entire meal. While I dont neccissarily mind smoke as I’ve been know to enjoy a cigarette on occasion, did them old broads really have to indulge while I was eating!? They should have to freeze like everybody else in Morgantown enduring the smoking ban in the cold. Anyway…

The wings come a dozen to a plate, which for $8:95 is actually a nice deal. Flavor wise they’re available in hot, chipotle barbrque, chessepeke garlic butter, cajun parmesean, and sweet Thia chilly. Naturally, myself and accompanying taster, orderd ours hot.

Normally I wash a plate of wings down with either Yuengling or a beer specific to the establishment, but since I was getting bougie for the evening, I had wine (2010 Castle Rock  Savignon Blanc). It was good, but lacked the cripness I enjoy in really citrisy Sav Balncs. This is not a wine blog I know, but I really enjoy Savignon Blanc. I digress…

The wings arrived on a white triangle shaped plate. While its a little hard to make presentation a priority when plating wings, the contrast created by the stark white plate and the deep orange sauce created the illusion it had been. While probably unintentional, It made me happy.

The wings were hot. just slighlty less crip than perfect, and clean tasting. You may have just read that and said “clean tasting?” Yes. Clean tasting. The wings tasted like they came from the most free range, animal concious, organic friendly farm from here to Brooklyn to Portland. While they weren’t piping hot upon arrival, they were most definatley fresh. The sauce was a delicious mix probably made in the kitchen. They were a nice large size which is the way I like ’em (pun intended).

Full Bar: Yes. Aside from th full bar thay have beer and a nicely priced wine list.

Good for Families: Yes. While I can’t attest to having ever seen an actual family or anybody under the age of 21 in this restaurant, Im sure the kids would be welcome.

Good For Foodies: Yes. In the case of Montmarte, chicken wings are the odd man out in terms of menu cohesiveness. The appitizer menu consisits of dishes like a crabcake stuffed portabella mushroom and the entre menu focuses on steaks with a few seafood and pasta dishes for those not looking to devour flesh.

Recommended Day to Go: As this is a restaurant and not a bar, wing specials don’t exhist here, however I think the best day to go is Friday. The atmosphere at Montmarte makes it a great place to sit at the bar and have a drink with some friends. Being that life is hard and the work week makes it harder, having an early evening Friday night drink (or Friday night couple bottles of wine) will get you ready for the cray activities you’ll no doubt be getting into. Think of this as your classy pregame spot.

Overall Rating: 9/10 Winglets. On a menu dominated by more highbrow dishes, the chicken wings hold their own. The added effect of the atmophere make this an ideal place to enjoy a few drinks and some wings before a night out.

Fall 2012 Menswear: Top 12 Things I Want

Alas the most wonderful time of the year has once again come and gone. No Im not talking about Chrismukkah y’all, Im talking about the Fall menswear shows! While other fashion seasons are also great times of year, there’s something about a good coat (or even better a great cape!) that just makes me warm and alive with the glory of designer clothes, thus I love Fall menswear more than all the other seasons (yes even more than Haute Couture).

Being that I am a fashion forward man, and thus the target of these shows, I have decided to make a list for family, friends, and other people looking to buy me things cause I’m awesome of the pieces from the menswear shows I would most like to have in my closet come the next Fall/Winter season. The list, in order, is as follows:

12. All The Geometric Motif Pieces from Alexander Wang

While some fashion people question the design merits of Alexander Wang, I do not. I am all about some Alexander Wang (and not only because he was nice to me that fateful day we met outside of Barneys)! In his second outing for his main line menwear collection, Wang showed pieces that, well, guys would actually want to wear. What a novel concept, high fashion clothes that everyday people can wear in their everyday life!? While it’s not a concept I’m completely into, as I live in a fantasy of my own making, menswear sometimes gets a bit ridiculous (New York Magazine’s blog, The Cut, made a list of the season’s most ridiculous here). These pieces sit right in that comfortable place where they’re interesting enough to be noticed, but not too outlandish that a mass amount of self-confidence (which I have in spades btw) is needed to pull them off. I am particularly partial to the peacoat and the grey sweater, just saying. While this collection stayed in the same territory color wise and aesthetically as his Spring menswear collection, the geometric shapes showed the lurking potential for really interesting, yet wearable, pieces to come. See the entire collection here.

11. An Overoat from Prada

For a very long time I did not understand Prada. I even once tweeted, “I don’t get what everybody sees in Prada.” I have, however, come to understand the genius that is the work of Muccia Prada. Somehow she always seems to be a season ahead of the curve. For Spring she worked with a major trend of this Fall, all over prints, and I’m sure next season we will see echoes of this collection all over the runway. While this Fall has been deemed “the season of the suit”, Ms.Prada made her Fall menswear collection “the collection of the coat” and what exquisite coats they are! There’s a slight 19th century gentleman vibe (that I LOVE), but the coats maintain their modernity in the cut and the fabric choices. My favorite piece is a printed red coat with a black and grey shearling collar. I can totally see myself rocking it with a pair of black skinny jeans, ankle boots, and a plain white tee. This is the most tailored I’ve seen from Prada since I’ve been paying attention (which really isn’t that long) however, I like! See the full collection here.

10. A Two Tone Topcoat from Balenciaga

Balenciaga. Even the name alone sounds luxe. Just say it one time to yourself. Balenciaga. The house that Cristobal built continues to take their menswear in an innovative direction, while maintaing their luxe roots. Creative director, Nicholas Ghesquiere, made tailoring a priority foe the second season in a row. The stand out pieces in my expert humble opinion are the two-tone topcoats. A huge trend I’m into is single garment color blocking, especially when done with two different fabrics. The topcoats of this season stood out to me as pieces that would easily fit into my, or any man’s, closet and give an automatic artistic edge to any basic outfit. See the complete collection here.

9. A Pair of Pants from Gucci

I am going to make a statement of which I’m pretty sure : If Frida Giannini weren’t a designer, she’d be a rock star. While reluctant at first, I have come to love Ms.Giannini’s work for Gucci in both menswear and ready-to-wear. After many seasons I’ve realized that I am the Gucci man! (Or I would be if I had a trust fund at my disposal and other rich friends to notice and envy and me looking amazing in my Gucci.) My favorite parts of this collection were the printed pants. Giannini’s Gucci man is one part Mick Jagger and another part Oscar Wilde. The tailoring of the pant suggests a modern rock star, while the print on the pants suggests a dandy entertaining at his London castle, especially when the pants were accompanied by a matching suit jacket. I can see myself in a pair of those pants, fighting off paparazzi, hanging with models, getting into the Boom Boom Room… ahh. Well until that day comes (and its coming y’all) you can check out the whole collection here.

8. All the Studded Accessories from Burberry Prorsum

Christopher Bailey and I have a total love hate relationship. A good 85-90% of the time I love what he does for Burberry Prorsum, but there is that 10-15% of the time where I hate the mere thought seeing somebody in the garment (i.e. many pieces from his Spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection) Fortunately, this collection fell solidly into the love category. One of the things I love most about this collection are the spiked accessories. While Bailey did a spiked collection for Spring 2011 ready-to-wear, he hasn’t used the spike motif much in menswear. It added some edge to a collection of closely tailored suits. The entire affair was very English, very Bailey, and I was very much into it. See the entire collection here.

7. A Parka/Topcoat Hybrid from Lanvin

e

If Joseph Altuzarra redefined the parka for women, then Lucas Ossendrijver and Alber Elbaz have done it for men!  This Lanvin collection showed awesome innovation in design (i.e. accentuated upper body proportions as well as the futuristic strap linking the jackets of some interestingly cut suits), while referencing the past (i.e. the Giligan style pants). A great piece marries innovation with function, and this coat certainly does it! This coat/parka hybrid is the kind of piece that can be worn from the office, to dinner, to the opera, to the movies, to the park, to Gradma’s house, to your best friend’s house, to your cousin’s house, to your cousin’s best friend’s house, and you’ll continue to look fresh at every place. Ossendrijer and Elbaz are trying to forge innovation into the classics, and its working. See the full collection here.

6. The Oversized Scarves (and maybe the matching jackets) at Louis Vuitton

These scarves are big, and luxurious, and comfy looking, and obnoxious, and I want one! All I see is me, in my Ray-Bans and my big ass Louis Vuittton scarf (and maybe matching jacket). Four words “Cant tell me nothing.” The suits from this collection were great too. See the entire collection here.

5. A Mixed Fabric Jacket from Comme des Garcons

Rei Kawabubo at Comme des Garcons always seems to be having fun. Boys in skirts, girls in huge white dresses, boys in wigs, the fun never ends! (And thats what fashion is about anyway, right?) This season emphasized prints and, for a second season in a row, boys in skirts. The mixed print blazers were my favorite thing about the collection and one of my favorite pieces from all of the menswear collections. I’m seeing black skinnies, a basic T by Alexander Wang shirt, brown wingtips, black Ray-Bans, and a shit eating grin. In the words of Jay-Z in H.A.M (Hard As a motherexplicit) “Commes de Garcon, fuck your fresh” Enough said. See the entire collection here.

4. A suit from Burberry

In the season of the suit, these were my favorite. They were closely tailored and in fabrics that said “In the day I’m an English gentleman, but at night I get randy”. Yes. See the entire collection here.

3. A Pair of Shoes from Givenchy

It is by no means any sort of secret that I LOVE Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci. I have dedicated countless hours to learning about Riccardo Tisci, reviewing images of past collections, and, most importantly, lusting after the clothes like a starving foster child who has just been seated at a Golden Coral for the first time. For several years (much before the popular fashion media, I might add) I have been a champion of the Riccardo Tisci vision. It is because I have a great love for the work and vision of Riccardo Tisci that it pains me to say that this collection did not do much for me. I died for last Fall’s rottweilers, jizzed in my pants over this Spring’s the birds of paradise print, but Tisci’s “American Dream” collection is just not lighting the spark in me his collections usually do. That being said, I do love the shoes from this collection, specifically the brown and red pairs. The very day I saw the pictures of the collection, I was commenting to a friend about how I only wear wingtips or boots. Behold the Givenchy wingtip-boot. I need a pair of these, and since I’ll be in Paris when the collection hits stores, I anticipate on actually having them. Here’s hoping! See the entire collection here.

2. A sweater from Calvin Klein Collection

The more  I see from Calvin Klein Collection, the more I love it! Like it’s ready-to-wear, Calvin Klein Collection’s menswear maintains its minimalist aesthetic. While the designs may be minimal, the fabric choices are super luxe, giving the pieces that “I’m wearing this in the back of the Mabach” vibe. Like Italo Zucchelli’s Spring collection for the label, the silhouettes were loose, giving the collection a sophisticated, urban vibe. My favorite piece is the navy alligator and felt sweater. There is something thing  bout this piece that I think sits in the heart of my personal style aesthetic, which is (fundamentally) classic with a bit of edge. This is a piece I would have forever and gladly wear forever. See the entire collection here.

1. Everything at Agnes B.

In a total 180 from Spring, Agnes B. comes back with a collection I want to own every piece of! I could not get down with the Spring offering from Agnes B. The whole save the earth inspiration, with the poorly fitted suits, and all those bad prints just weren’t for me. It felt very “Westwood done wrong”. This Fall however, showed a return to Miss B’s primary client, the 21st century sophisticated dandy, or the person I strive to be everyday : ) There were tweed shorts, great bags, printed sweaters, double-breasted suits in interesting-yet-not-garish prints, awesome coats, and there were capes! THERE WERE CAPES!!!. I’ve lusted after a sick cape ever since I saw the Fall 2011 Dior Homme Collection. Agnes B. left me a sceptic after Spring, but I’m back safely on the believer train after this collection. Choo-choo!!! See the complete, stellar collection here.

So there you have it. These are the pieces I’m most looking forward to hopefully, fingers crossed, praying to God every spare second owing. Should you or anyone you know feel like purchasing any items on this list for moi,  don’t ask, just do! I love surprises, and as always I promise to pay you back with a huge helping of my undying love and support (which most you probably already have anyway).

Happy New York Fashion Week!

Kyle

Wing Review: Jake’s Dilemma

Jake’s Dilemma

430 Amsterdam Ave (Between 80th and 81st)

New York, NY 10024

(212) 580-0556

Hours: Mon-Thurs 4pm-4am

Fri: 3pm-4am

Sat-Sun 12pm-4am

Walking into a Jake’s Dilemma presents the enterer with an immediate personal dilemma: Stay outside, sober, and keep one’s dignity or walk in and potentially loose it to one or more games of beer pong and $3 Jagar bombs. I pondered for a matter of moments the options before me and then I …

Obviously I took the second option (because I care about you, the readers)

Jake’s Dilemma sits comfortably in a part of Manhattan’s Upper West Side that allows it to attract its target audience: those post graduates with entry level jobs that can’t help wanting to revisit the glory days of hours long beer pong tournaments upon leaving the office, as well as, college students from Columbia and the surrounding schools. Jake’s isn’t really a wing joint as much as it is a college bar that tries to add a bit of sophistication by offering private rooms. (One downstairs and a private space up a few stairs and behind the beer pong tables, sectioned off by some classy curtains no less).

Just like all good college bars should, Jake’s runs drink specials every night of the week. The best parts about Jake’s is by far the 1/2 Price Bar Everyday (Mon.-Thur. 4-8, Fri. 3-8, Sat. & Sun. 12-8) and the the other daily specials that accompany it.

My first experience at Jake’s, the one in which I sampled the wings, was on a Tuesday. I ordered a pint of my other favorite beer,( and one that I’ve only found in New York on draft thus far) Goose Island Honker’s Ale, and waited for my friend to join me. While drinking that first beer I scanned the full room.  As pitchers were also 1/2 off, the upper level around the two beer pong tables was starting to resemble the Grant Ave. parties I used to gravitate toward as a freshman, but learned to stay the hell away from in my later years. You know the kind of parties where you swear there might be a roffie secretly glued to every cup their not charging the girls for…

Anyway… After my friend go there we sat outside, as there was no seating in, and I ordered the hot wings. The wings do come in other flavors (mild, medium, plain, and BBQ), but Im a traditionalist. The regular order is an order of ten and it comes with celery, carrots and either blue or ranch dressing FOR FREE! In New York City and in this economy, getting your dipping sauce and vegetable sides is a $5 value in itself, so the initial presentation is a pretty beautiful thing. The wings themselves were medium sized (not as big as Im used to, but I’m not really a size queen, so it was OK.)  While I was sitting outside, it was pretty evident that my wings had been sitting under a heat lamp for a bit as they came to me only slightly over room temperature. The sauce had a nice little kick, but it tasted sort of like a generic sauce the bar bought it in bulk at Wal-Mart then decided to add a littleTexas Pete to, you know for the flavor. While the sauce claims to be homemade, I have yet to confirm or deny this claim. The wings were cooked well, but they were cooked a little too well. This is either the result of the heat lamp or a cook that also partakes in the (awesome) drink specials. I have yet to confirm or deny this either.

All in all the wings at Jake’s Dilemma aren’t bad, they’re just not the highlight of the Jake’s experience. As sometimes happens with bars, the food plays second fiddle to atmosphere. With Jake’s, this works to the bar’s advantage because as Jake’s is clearly going for a “vibe” one that it most definatley achieves.

I came back to Jake’s another time, for the beer pong and shots for the atmosphere. I should have had the wings then, I guarantee this would’ve been a higher rated review.

Full Bar: YES!

Good For Families: If all your family is above the age of 21 and the family activity is pretending to still be in college.

Good for Foodies: If nachos, quesedillas, and tater tots are your favorite foodie’s ideal plat de jour. Jake’s serves bar food staples, assorted sandwiches, and deep dish pizza. A selection of specialty burgers are also available, but the most gourmet ingredient is the BBQ mango chutney sauce that comes with the Jerk Chicken Burger.

Recommended Day to Go: Wednesday. As there are no days when the wings are on special, this decision is based purely on the drink specials. Aside from the normal 4-8 1/2 price bar special, Wednesday also boasts a “$3 You Call It” drafts, bottles, shots, and (well) mixed-drinks special. Translation: $20 will go a hell of a lot further and get you a hell of a lot drunker than in most NYC bars on a Wed.

Overall Rating: 6.5/10 Winglets. These wings weren’t bad, but they weren’t great. While they won’t leave you hungry, they’re probably best enjoyed after a few rounds on the pong table.

Ad Campaigns: Karlie Kloss for Victoria’s Secret PINK

It is no real secret that I think of the Victoria’s Secret PINK line as, well, ugly. I think the notion of women wearing sweat/yoga pants and thinking that they’re fashionable because said yoga/sweatpants are from Victoria’s Secret is outrageous… interesting.

As Karl Lagerfeld told us,

“Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants”

I personally only wear sweatpants if I’m 1)Sick 2)Coming from or going to the gym/dance studio or 3)Allowing myself that ONE DAY A MONTH called my “Rihanna Paparazzi Day”  where I wear sweatpants (in public) with sunglasses and keep my head down like the paparazzi are chasing me. I even put my hands out every once in a while like I’m stopping an overbearing photographer. Oh for the day when this is real…..

Anyway, the point of this post is not to rant about sweatpants, but to talk about the one and only Karlie Kloss.  Karlie (who from now on will be referred to as The Kloss) has, for a few years now, been my favorite supermodel. I’m in love with the story of a midwestern girl turned Parisian catwalk queen. It just makes you feel like dreams really do come true! Not to mention her body is sick and she has the best walk of any of the new crop of supermodels. While she’s recently done more mature editorials (meaning she got naked), and walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for the first time, her latest job is as the new face of Victoria’s Secret PINK.

While I obviously loathe the PINK line, The Kloss (much like male model, Noah Mills) could sell me just about anything! And despite my feelings about the line, I kind of like the images of Karlie (pictured below) looking a little younger. I mean she’s only 19 for Gaga’s sake!

What are your feelings about the ads? Do they make you want to head to your local mall and pick up some PINK or do you still think that even the face of Dior couldn’t get you to wear a track suit with PINK on the ass? Please feel free to let me know in the comments!

Spring 2012 Ad Campaigns: Louis Vuitton (Ready-to-Wear)

Even though it’s freezing and the worst days of snow have not even begun to rear their ugly heads, spring fashion ad campaigns are beginning to trickle onto the internet, getting you ready to spend money (you probably don’t have) on clothes (you probably can’t afford)! However what is fashion if not a reason to dream? Marc Jacobs seemed to embrace this dreamy mentality with his stellar Spring 2012 Collection for Louis Vuitton.  None other than famed fashion photographer, Steven Meisel (who also shot the Spring Prada ads), shot Kati Nescher and Daria Strokous for the campaign (pictured below). What do you think of the ads? Do they make you want eat ramen and starve your children and/or pets just so you can have a dreamy Vuitton dress or do they just make you want a sundae? Leave your comments below!

Wing Review: Mario’s Fishbowl

Mario’s Fishbowl

704 Richwood Ave.

Morgantown, WV 26505

(304) 292-2511

Hours: Sun-Thur 11am-12pm (Kitchen closes at 10)

Fri-Sat    11am-1am   (Kitchen closes at 11)

Mario’s Fishbowl is the kind of place you walk into and know that there are stories in the walls, and not just because the walls are covered with writings and cards of past visitors commemorating their time as Mario’s. No, you know that if these walls could talk, they’d tell you crazy stories of college kids past, and they’d probably have beer breath, beer breath with the slightest hint of buffalo sauce and cigarettes.

Established in 1963, and named Mario’s Fishbowl after the large glass that holds the beer (regular size and XL pictured above), Mario’s has become a Morgantown staple and favorite among students and locals alike. While Mario’s serves many things including burgers, cheesesteaks, and even sunday brunch, it’s the wings that keep my taste buds wetter than white girls at a Trey Songz concert.

The wings come in a variety of flavors including mild, medium, hot, garlic, greek, spicy BBQ, honey BBQ, and a unique combination called of hot and ranch called cowboy ranch. I’ve had the medium, honey BBQ, and cowboy ranch, but the hot are hands down the best.

On my most recent trip, I ordered 25 for myself and a friend. They came served  on a large white plate with just enough sauce for dipping if they aren’t coated enough to begin with, which is great since the sauce is outstanding! Its a home made recipe thats been around since the fishbowl started. The wings were large, and fried until they got that perfect outside crisp. As Mario’s is not very big, there was next to no wait time between when our wings are made and when they were brought to our table, which ensured only the freshest wings. The first bite of the drumette was as just as great as all the other first bites I’ve had at Mario’s. We paired the wings with a small order of fishbowl chips, which are house made potato chips and 2 XL fishbowls of Yuengling. In my opinion every order of Mario’s wings needs an order of fishbowl chips and a Yuengling, but what do I know?

Obviously this is the first place I’d recommend in Morgantown,WV for hot wings. The wings are as consistent as the loyal clientele and after tasting the wings it’s easy to see why the clientele is so loyal.

Full Bar: No. Soft Drinks, Wine, Beer (Both Domestic and Abroad), and Mad Dog 20/20 (Yes y’all they have Mad Dog regularly for your tasting pleasure)

Good For Families: In the earlier part of the day, and most weekend nights . While Mario’s is all non-smoking, on the weekends the place becomes heavy with locals that like their beer and their juke box, and possibly liked a little whiskey before they got there (no judgement).

Good For Foodies: If your foodie likes bar food as much as they like Babbo. Unlike some of the other places I’ll cover on this blog, there is no executive chef here.

Recommended Day to Go: Once upon a time in the not too distant past (last month) I was a Tuesday night regular. The all day Tuesday special of a big ass, ice cold domestic (Yuengling, as if there is any other domestic worth drinking) beer and 12 wings for the 99% approved price of $7.95 is pretty awesome . Thats the kind of special that collegiate wet dreams are made of!

Overall Rating: 10/10 Winglets. These are currently the wings by which all others must compare, however that may change as I scour the nation for the best wings in America.
